Referral growth

Give five, get five

“Give $5. Get $5.”

A referral promotion stripped down to a single sentence a customer can repeat from memory. Symmetric amounts remove every question about who gets what, which is exactly why it converts so well in gyms, salons, clinics and car washes.

What the customer sees

From scan to reward, step by step

No app, no account, no download. The whole journey happens in a mobile browser on your branded page.

  1. Claims the offer and joins your rewards list.

  2. Sends the credit to a friend by text, email or link.

  3. Friend redeems the credit on a visit.

  4. The original customer's matching credit is issued automatically.

How to set it up

Configured in the builder, live the same day

  1. Set the give and the get

Both default to $10 and both are stored in cents. Keep them equal unless you have a reason not to.

  2. Cap the referrals

Maximum referrals per customer, one to one hundred.

  3. Set the expiry

How long each side has to use the credit once it is issued.

  4. Deploy

Strongest as a pop-up on your site and on the reward screen of another promotion.

What you can configure

  • Give amount
  • Get amount
  • Maximum referrals per customer
  • Expiration window
  • Redeemable in-store, online or both
  • Minimum spend

Why it works

Give-and-get is the lowest-friction referral mechanic that exists. There is nothing to explain, nothing to calculate, and the phrase itself is the advertisement — which matters when the message is being passed along by word of mouth rather than by your copywriter.

The outcome for this promotion is decided on our server before the customer sees it, so the prize cannot be forced from the browser.

Questions

Give $X / Get $X questions

How is this different from refer-a-friend?
Mechanically they are cousins. Give-and-get fixes both sides to the same amount and hides the machinery, so it is easier to say out loud. Refer-a-friend gives you asymmetric rewards, multiple trigger options and deeper attribution reporting when you want to tune the economics.
What amount should I use?
Pick a number that is roughly 15% to 25% of your average ticket and round it to something memorable. $5 works for coffee and quick service, $10 for restaurants and salons, $25 for services with a high first-visit value such as dental or home repair.
When exactly does my customer get their credit?
After the friend's credit is marked redeemed, not when the friend clicks the link. That ordering is what keeps the promotion honest and your costs tied to real visits.
